Behind the Hypoallergenic Label

With so many terms thrown around, we understand it can be confusing to know what type of dog food is best for your pet. Why is hypoallergenic dog food better? What is natural pet food actually made from? Would a grain free dog food improve my dog’s sensitive tummy?

So what’s behind the hypoallergenic label? Here’s our ingredient fact sheet to explain all.

Protein

Proteins are essentially your dog’s building blocks. Not only do they produce hormones and enzymes to regulate your dog’s body, they are a healthy source of amino acids vital for muscle development, healthy skin and fur. A deficiency in amino acids can cause health-related problems.

Not all proteins are created equal however, and if you’ve checked out the labels of some processed dog foods you may have come across some pretty unappetising, not to mention scary, animal by-products and fillers. Naturo’s hypoallergenic dog food is different in that our proteins come from animal meat sources fit for human consumption - chicken, duck, turkey, lamb and salmon – and we can track every ingredient back to its source.

Fibre and Carbohydrates

A source of energy and great for intestinal health, our fibre and carbohydrate sources come from:

Brown rice - A hypoallergenic source of fibre that contains high levels of the amino acid lysine.
Carrots – Contains Beta Carotene to help your dog produce Vitamin A
Peas - A source of Iron, Vitamin A and K, plus magnesium and phosphorus for blood, bone and muscle health.
Potatoes – A high source of energy containing fibre, Vitamin C, Vitamin B complex and Iron.
Dried Tomatoes - Tomatoes contain lycopene, an antioxidant which strengthens your dog’s immune system.
Dried Chicory Root - Stimulates growth of good beneficial bacteria in the digestive system for good bowel function.

Vitamins and Minerals

Our hypoallergenic dog food is full of vitamins and minerals that contribute to a healthy immune system. These include Vitamin A, excellent for eyesight, Vitamin D, for strong bones, and Vitamin E, to boost your dog’s immune defences. Dried basil, kelp, zinc, manganese, selenium and iodine make up the essential minerals in Naturo dog food.

Fats and Oils

Healthy fats and oils are nature’s wonder ingredients! Not only do they help build strong bones, teeth, hair, coat, muscle and immune systems, they contribute to digestive, reproductive and cardiovascular health as well. Salmon and sunflower oils are the two types in our hypoallergenic ingredients list, full of omega 3 and 6.

Naturo’s dog food is hypoallergenic meaning it is less likely to cause your dog an allergic reaction. For a full detailed list of all our natural ingredients click here.
